About This Place

Situated just a short detour from the Camino Português Litoral in Esposende, Toca Bar is a delightful and welcoming café-bar that perfectly blends the comfort of a local hangout with the charm of a traveler’s retreat. Whether you’re stepping in for a quick espresso, a refreshing gin tonic, or a satisfying snack, this cozy spot offers an inviting atmosphere that feels like a warm embrace after a long day on the trail or exploring the scenic coastline.

At the heart of Toca Bar’s menu are its extraordinary tostadas — toasted sandwiches crafted with thoughtful combinations that awaken the senses. The Toast Mit Ziegenkäse Und Tomaten (goat cheese with tomatoes) is a standout, delighting with the creamy tang of chèvre balanced by the sweet acidity of fresh tomato and a drizzle of honey. For those craving a savory bite, the Tosta bacon Bacon, queijo gouda, tomate wraps smoky bacon, gooey gouda cheese, and ripe tomatoes into a perfectly toasted, oregano-dusted warmth. Each bite is a satisfying blend of textures and flavors that linger deliciously on the palate.

If you're seeking lighter, shareable snacks, the crisp, vibrant nachos with salsa provide a delightful crunch, while the Hamburger and Cachorro Quente offer quick yet hearty options that fuel you for your next adventure. Pair any of these with a cooling Sangria Branco, a rich Gin Tónico, or a locally cherished Super Bock beer, and you’ll be savoring a true taste of Esposende laid-back charm.

Beyond the food, what truly sets Toca Bar apart is the genuine hospitality of its owner, Antonio. Numerous visitors rave about his kindness, warmth, and infectious smile, describing their experience as akin to catching up with an old friend. Whether sharing a quick chat or thoughtful advice for the Camino, Antonio’s presence infuses the space with a sense of community and belonging that is rare and treasured. His attentiveness ensures every guest feels seen and valued, elevating an ordinary café stop into a heartfelt encounter.

The setting is equally inviting. Nestled with a charming garden where you can bask in the sunshine or cool shade, Toca Bar offers a tranquil haven to refresh your body and spirit. It’s the perfect nook to rest, sip a cappuccino or café expresso, and watch the gentle flow of life by the nearby river. Many Camino pilgrims appreciate this serene pause just before or after crossing the Rio Neiva, a well-earned respite on their route.

In essence, Toca Bar is more than just a café or bar; it’s a place where flavorful, lovingly prepared food meets authentic human connection. It’s a small treasure off the beaten path, inviting you to slow down, indulge in simple yet delightful dishes, and leave with a full belly and a happy heart. Whether you’re a local or a wanderer, Toca Bar promises a restorative experience that lingers long after your last bite or sip.

Amazing place to have a rest, sip of water and super bock;) and a small bite of heaven sandwiches. The owner Antonio will welcome you as an old friend with big smile and willingness to help. Nevertheless you should change the direction a little bit from camino portuguese, this place will give you everything you need to restore your body after the long way. So do not hesitate to reach out this beautiful place near to river Neiva.

Lovely spot just next to the Ecovia by the river. The owner, Antonio, is very kind and his tostadas are really good! A great spot to relax no matter what, but especially so if doing the Camino Portugues litoral, just before crossing the Rio Neiva (or after depending on the direction). It's slightly off the Camino path, but given that the Camino passes through places with no cafes or restaurants in this region, going off path to come here, taking a break, and then following the Ecovia up north is absolutely worth it!

We stopped here for lunch off the Litoral Way of the Camino and were welcomed by Antonio, the proprietor of Toca Bar. Antonio made us two tasty sandwiches, goat cheese + tomato and bacon + tomato + cheese, both toasted and dusted with oregano. I wish it had been later in the day because he seems like a fun guy to have a beer with. The food was great, the cokes, cold, and the laid back atmosphere most welcome.
